Participating in a seed swap is a fun way to try growing new things. It also offers the opportunity to connect with other gardeners and homesteaders, and to get unique seeds.
This seed swap is open to anyone in the US (if you’re outside the US and want to participate, you will need to pay for shipping to your location).
This seed swap is closed! I look forward to hosting another one in the future! If you’re interested in participating at a later date, please email me at asformeandmyhomestead@gmail.com
Seeds Swaps available:
You may choose to be part of one of the limited swap (20 participants), the whole swap (as many people as want to participate), and/or the medicinal seed swap.
You’ll send me seeds for whichever swap you want to participate, and I’ll send you back a box of seeds.
If you want to be in the limited swap, send 20 packets of seeds (you can participate in multiple limited swaps, if you’d like. In this case send 40 seed packets, or 60, etc).
If you want to be in the whole swap or the medicinal, I will get you numbers September 21st. I’m going to leave sign ups open until the 20th of September, then they will be closed, and you’ll have time to get me the seeds. I’m guessing the medicinal swap will be smaller, but I’m not sure.
I’ve been in seed swaps with 140 participants, so it’s possible the whole swap will be giant. If you would rather not participate in THAT big of a swap, let me know in the final question where you can put questions or comments what size of group is your ideal, and I can try to make it happen.
The seeds:
You will need to send seeds in individual packages for the number of participants in the group swap you’re in. Packets can be fancy and handmade, or they can be cheap and simple (you can even print out my seed packet template to make things easier).
It’s important that they have the full name of the what seeds are inside. If you want people to tag you on Instagram when they grow your seeds, be sure to include your handle on your packets. Growing instructions are helpful but not required.
Seeds should be viable, and should NOT be hybrids (that way people can continue growing and saving the seeds for future swaps). If you’ve grown squash or melon, please ensure they haven’t been cross pollinated. Each packet should include a decent number of seeds, depending on what you’re sharing: For example, 5-10 tomato, melon, squash, pepper or corn seeds will grow a decent harvest. 20-30 carrot, beet, or radish seeds will suffice. Use your best judgement.
Important dates & info:
Sign up: now until September 20th
Send seeds: by October 31st
Receive seeds: around Thanksgiving (depends on the size of the group, for how long it will take me to divide things up and get them packaged and shipped)
Cost: $9 for shipping and supplies. If the whole seed swap gets huge, I may need to do $15.50 for the larger box, but I will try my best to get them into the $9 box. **Shipping can be combined if you’d like to do multiple swaps.**
**Payment is due at sign up, to secure your spot, and is non-refundable. In the past, I’ve been in swaps where people ended up not following through, which isn’t fair to the others involved, so by signing up and paying, you’re committing to follow through. If you end up needing to bail, I’ll use the money to buy extra seeds to cover your commitment. Pay via PayPal to asformeandmyhomestead@gmail.com
