I’ve noticed over the 10 years of my being a parent, that the best gift to give my parents and in-laws for Christmas is something made by the kids.
Grandparents can’t seem to get enough of crafts made by their grandkids. This keepsake handprint ornament is one such craft that the grandparents were thrilled to receive.
A keepsake handprint ornament is great for if you have kids too small to really make anything decent yet. We had good luck making this with kids as young as 2 years old.
Supplies to make a Keepsake Handprint Ornament:
- Plain colored Christmas ornaments
- Americana white paint
- Black permanent marker
- Adhesive-backed orange and black craft foam
How to make a Keepsake Handprint Ornament:
Paint child’s hand with white paint.
Have them hold their hand open, and lower the ornament so that it’s touching their palm. Tell them to grab the ornament gently, then let go.
Hang ornament somewhere to dry that it won’t be touched. It doesn’t take very long to dry.
One the ornament is completely dry, add eyes, mouths, and buttons using the permanent marker.
Cut out tiny orange triangles for noses, and make the hats out of black craft foam or draw them using permanent markers.
We wrote the year and the child’s name on the bottom of the ornament, where their palm was.
