Classy black and gold pumpkins are a fun way to decorate for fall!
My family loves going to our local pumpkin patch to get pumpkins each year. It’s become a tradition that we all enjoy.
When we’re lucky enough to go to the pumpkin patch with our homeschooling group for a field trip, the kids get to ride on a wagon pulled behind a tractor out to the pumpkin patch. They then get to pick out the perfect pumpkin, cut it from the vine, and bring it back home.
Included in the wagon ride is a small pumpkin, and these are some of my kids’ favorites for decorating.
We typically carve larger pumpkins, and paint the smaller ones.
Last year, we went with a black, gold, and white theme. I was actually in the midst of working with both of my sisters-in-law, planning a birthday party for our mother-in-law’s 60th. We were going with a black, gold, and white theme, and it inspired me to paint these black and gold pumpkins.
The paints used for the black and gold pumpkins are 14K Gold, Charcoal, and Magnolia White. They are all Ceramcoat paints, which I find to be a good quality paint. I’ve bought some of the cheaper brands before and I’ve always ended up disappointed, so I stick to Ceramcoat, Apple Barrel, or Folk Art.
For the polka dot pumpkins, I used a round sponge, like these. I actually made my own by cutting a circle out of a regular sponge, since I couldn’t find the polka dot sponge brushes at my local craft store, and I didn’t want to wait to get one.
The stripes and heart were free handed, which is why they aren’t perfect.
What fall traditions does your family enjoy? We not only enjoy decorating pumpkins like this, we also have prayer pumpkins that my kids look forward to each year.
Another fun tradition we enjoy is having a Reformation Party with friends! If you’ve never heard of a Reformation Party, this is something you’re definitely going to want to check out!
