I haven’t ever had the alcoholic version of a creamsicle, so I invented what I thought would be the equivalent of the frozen creamsicle of my youth but in drink form.  After making these, I looked up the recipe for the alcholic version, and found that I was way off from that.  If you’re looking for a virgin version of the cocktail, this isn’t it! But if you want the dessert in drink form, you’ve come to the right place!

Should I use a lemon-lime soda or orange soda?

You can make this with either a lemon-lime soda such as Sprite or 7-up, and you’ll get a slightly orange flavor.  For a stronger orange flavor, use an orange soda instead.  Either way is delicious.

The pictured orange creamsicle mocktails were made with lemon-lime soda, which is why they turned out very light in color.  When I’ve made them with orange soda they have a more orange color.

I also used vanilla bean ice cream instead of plain vanilla, simply because I like it!  You can use whichever you have on hand, or whichever you prefer!

The ice cream will float to the top, so make sure you have a ladle to scoop the orange creamsicle mocktails into cups, or else you will end up with just ice cream foam in the cups.  Not that that would be a bad thing, mind you, but you may want a little of the orange in your creamsicle!
