  • Add 1/4 tsp. mica powder, and stir well. Pour into snowflake mold.

  • In a medium bowl, melt half of the remaining soap base, microwaving 30 seconds at a time, and then stirring. Add 12 drops wintergreen essential oil, stirring well.
  • Pour into soap mold, filling each mold about halfway. Spritz with alcohol if any bubbles appear. Allow to cool for at least 1 hour.
  • Pop snowflakes out of mold.

Making homemade soap is so much fun!  I know that so many people are scared of making soap, since we’ve all heard horror stories of lye burns or getting blinded.  I think the truth is that it’s not nearly as dangerous as it’s been made out to be.

If, however, you’re still a little nervous about working with lye, or if you just want a simpler form of soap making, melt and pour soap bases are the thing for you.  There’s no worry about caustic ingredients, and the soap is ready to use as soon as it’s set, unlike traditional soap making.

Making these soap bars is extremely simple, and requires only about 10 minutes total of hands-on time.   Each layer of the bars does require cooling between starting the next layer, though, so there is some cooling time.

This DIY Snowflake Soap is not only easy to make, but it makes a fun Christmas present!  Pair it with a homemade lotion bar, sugar scrub, a loofah, a handmade washcloth, an emery board, and some nail polish, and you’ve got a fabulous gift for a friend or coworker.

Wrap your DIY Snowflake Soap in parchment paper, and tie with a thick ribbon, thin ribbon, or jute, so make it easier to give.

    2. My kids and I tried making soap years ago. Unfortunately, they did not turn out as cute as these. Maybe I should try again.
