Creamy Cajun Sauce

Sharing is caring!

Creamy Cajun Sauce is a quick and easy sauce that takes your regular meals from bland to fantastic!

A Lodge skillet full of creamy cajun sauce, with an onion and red pepper beside it.

Creamy Cajun Sauce is a favorite at my house.  We love it with breaded chicken, over fish like tilapia or cod, and especially with Cajun Meatballs.

It only takes about 15 minutes to make creamy Cajun sauce, which makes it one of my go-to recipes on busy nights.  I can cook up a pot of pasta and heat some green beans while the sauce is cooking, and have a flavorful meal on the table in 15 minutes.

I love how versatile this sauce is.  We haven’t disliked it on anything we’ve tried so far.  In fact, my kids love the taste of it so much that I keep thinking I need to turn it into a soup recipe!  (If I do, I’ll be sure to share it here!)

To make Creamy Cajun Sauce, you’ll need Cajun seasoning.  I always make my own, so here’s the Cajun Seasoning recipe.  It is a very simple recipe.  No need to buy Cajun seasoning, since you can whip up this recipe with pantry staples in less than 5 minutes.

Creamy Cajun Sauce is a quick and easy sauce that takes your regular meals from bland to fantastic! Goes well with chicken, meatballs, or fish.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 2-3 tsp. Cajun seasoning**
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • In a large skillet (I use my Lodge cast iron skillet), melt butter. Sauté onion and bell pepper in melted butter for about 5 minutes, or until onion is translucent.
  • Add flour and Cajun seasoning, and stir until bubbly. If mixture is extremely thick, just stir and cook about 1 minute.
  • While whisking, slowly add broth.
  • Bring to a boil and boil one minute.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add heavy cream and stir until combined.
  • Notes

**3 tsp. of Cajun seasoning will give you a spicy sauce. For a milder sauce, reduce the amount.

    1. Sauce worked out great. Simple, straight forward, and I could execute it while I hung out with the 15 month old, so that’s an immediate win. Heads up, 2 tbsp of Cajun is still pretty dang hot, and I’ve a pretty good tolerance for things. Not overwhelming, but definitely spicy.

All in all, this is a win.
