Big batch granola is the perfect breakfast recipes for families! It lasts my family of 2 adults and 3 kids for about 2 weeks!
I’ve been making this granola recipe since my husband and I got married. It’s a recipe that my mom gave to me, and it’s been one of our favorites. We’ve tried other granola recipes, and found some we liked, but we always end up coming back to this delicious recipe!
Lately this big batch granola recipe has been the only cereal Dan or I eats, and we’re working towards it being the only cereal the kids eat as well. Because of this, the small batches just weren’t cutting it. I had to make big batch granola so we could make it through without me having to bake it every week!
This recipe lasts our family about 2 weeks or so with us eating it every day. It makes a lot of granola. I store it in a container that was full of animal crackers from Costco. The animal crackers were 4 lbs.
If you need great containers, those animal cracker containers now hold my flour and sugar for baking, as well as this entire big batch of granola (and the animal crackers are really tasty as well!). Keeping the granola in a sealed container keeps it fresh tasting and crunchy.
I make this recipe in a roasting pan, but you can make it in any large oven-safe pan.

Hi! How big was your roasting pan? I have been making granola for years for our family of 7 total people, but the many iterations of baking sheets makes this tiresome. Could you please send me an Amazon link for the best affordable one for this recipe? I would be very grateful 😊

I think this is pretty close to the pan I use. I hope that’s helpful!

This was a great find. I added about 3 cups of additional seed (flax, sesame, pepitas, chopped walnuts, and shredded coconut) and that necessitated my adding another half cup of honey to make it moist enough so that all of the ingredients got moist & sticky before baking. I will be using this as ‘my’ recipe going forwards.
I didn’t mix and bake in a roasting pan, and I’ll be doing that next time (saves wshing a bowl and on the two half-sheet baking trays that I did bake it on). I wonder whether there’ll be any difference in the finished product when using the roasting pan because of the thicker layer of granola being a bit slower to dry out and crisp up.

Hi! I just wanted to say that this is by far my favorite homemade granola recipe! I found it the other day while searching for a big batch recipe with no maple syrup.
I added a small amount of molasses, and changed nuts to sunflower and flax seeds since that’s what I had on hand!
Fabulous money saving recipe! Delicious!
Thank you so much!

Jennifer, I’m so glad you enjoy the recipe! You have no idea how much it makes my day to be able to help others find good recipes!

Thanks for this great recipe! I found it through a search and have made it twice now: we really like it. I replace the nuts with sunflower and pumpkin seeds, for allergy reasons. The genuinely “big batch” recipe makes the effort that much more worthwhile. My favourite thing about this recipe is going to sound silly: the idea to make the granola in a roaster. I used to work in a bakery and we would make granola on cookie sheets, so I had been doing the same thing at home. It got rather messy and took a long time with multiple cookie sheets on the go. The roaster strategy has been a game-changer! Thanks again.

Thea, thanks so much for your comment! I used to cook granola on cookie sheets, too, (we like it crunchy), but you’re right that it ends up making a mess. I’m so happy to be able to have helped you out a little!

We love granola and having this for breakfast with the added nuts is the best. Husband likes to add milk or cream to him. I am more the brown sugar addictive person.

My kids love granola, but I have never made my own. I am definitely going to give this a try. I bet it is much cheaper than store bought and you can control the amount of sweetener.
