Read my review of the pencil sharpener from Classroom Friendly Supplies
I’ve been looking for a good pencil sharpener for a while. One of the awesome ones like we had at school when I was a kid, that could sharpen any pencil to perfection. So when I was offered the chance to do a pencil sharpener review for Classroom Friendly Supplies, I jumped on the opportunity, and today I’m sharing what I thought of it.
One thing I’ve noticed as a homeschooling mom is that the quality of pencils has gone way down. Unless you buy the expensive name brand pencils, most pencils are so hard to sharpen! And the cheap ones that the kids are given at parades and such, you might as well just throw away. I’ve noticed that most of these just shred when you try to sharpen them, or the lead keeps breaking, when sharpened in most pencil sharpeners.
Just so that you can see that I truly have done my homework on pencil sharpeners, we own several manual pencil sharpeners (the kind you put your pencil in and twist), along with an electric sharpener that was actually pretty expensive.
But I was still struggling with sharpening the cheaper pencils, and even struggling often with sharpening the good pencils! I kept telling my husband, Dan, that I wished I could get the old fashioned kind of pencil sharpener with the metal blades that spin around to sharpen the pencils.
After searching high and low, I finally found one! Classroom Supplies makes pencil sharpeners just like what I was looking for! But as the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding.
We received the sharpener so I could do a pencil sharpener review, and I immediately got it out of the box so we could try it out. It took me a minute to figure it out. That probably sounds silly, but it didn’t come with instructions, and I was a little confused by it.
I know I said I wanted one just like what we had in grade school, but this is a little bit different– good different.
The sharpening action is the same, but this pencil sharpener has a cool new feature. Pull out the metal plate on the front and squeeze the black tabs on top, and insert your pencil. Then the tabs hold your pencil in place, and the metal plate pulls the pencil into the sharpener, until the point is sharp.
I love this feature! It makes it so much easier for kids with small hands to be able to sharpen their pencil! And no need to worry that it might waste your pencil by sharpening too much. You can feel a difference in the sharpener as soon as it hits the sharp point.
I was feeling really impressed by this pencil sharpener, but the real test came when I grabbed a cheap pencil out that one of the kids was given as a party favor. Could this pencil sharpener actually sharpen a cheap pencil?
The answer to that question is a resounding yes! I have never seen such sharp points!
Overall, I am extremely impressed by this pencil sharpener, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly! Get your homeschooling co-op to put together an order, and you can even get a discount!
